here are the results
The show began with Flashfire Booker/Ring Announcer Dale Cleveland introducing Williamston Police Chief David Baker, who thanked everyone in attendance for their support as well as IWA Flashfire, for providing the evening's entertainment. The first match of the evening was a Flashfire Internet Championship Match with Nitro, accompanied by Diamond & Johnny Love, making his first title defense. His opponent was a masked newcomer from Japan, The Blue Dragon. Oddly enough, this match was also the first match of the first round of the tournament to crown a new United States champion. The action was fast paced and went back and forth, with The Dragon appearing to have Nitro's number on more than one occassion. The Dragon eventually took the low road, throwing a white powder in Nitro's eyes when the ref wasn't looking. Diamond quickly retaliated, knocking The Blue Dragon from the top rope, allowing Nitro to connect with the Spear and get the win moments later. Lance Christopher came to the ring next and called out Dale Cleveland. Cleveland entered the ring and asked Christopher what he was doing. Lance then introduced himself as "The Main Attraction" Lance Christopher, and vowed he had a whole new outlook on life as well as wrestling. The happy, smiling Lance had now been replaced by a more serious, determined, stiff-minded Lance Christopher. Lance then swore he was about to rocket to the top of IWA Flashfire and he didn't care who may try to stand in his way. Suddenly the theme music of "Merciless' Don Matthews began playing and the IWA Flashfire Heavyweight Champion entered the ring. He scoffed at Lance's notion that he was the next big thing on the rise in Flashfire. Lance then told Merciless to put his title where his mouth was, and Matthews agreed to give Lance a title match later in the show. As Matthews prepared to leave the ring, Lance lived up to his new reputation, spotting an opportunity to jump the champ from the blindside and leave him laying in the ring. Next on the card was another first round tournament match, this one pitting Sergeant Grimm, accompanied by Corporal Knight, against Xion the Heretic. Xion immediately became the crowd favorite as Knight & Grimm, collectively known as The Brimstone Soldiers, drew the ire of everyone in attendance with their anti-american, pro-Iraqi propaganda. Once the match got underway, Xion seemed to feed off of the "U-S-A" chants that rang loudly throughout the building. But everytime Xion took control of the match, Cpl. Knight was there to interfere and stop Xion's momentum. The Brimstone Soldiers together would prove to be too much for Xion on this night, as Grimm nailed Xion with his Iraqi flagpole while Knight had the referee distracted. After the match, They draped their flag over Xion's fallen body and celebrated their victory of one of Flashfire's "dirty Americans". Then it was Corporal Knight's turn to compete in the U.S. Title Tournament, with his opponent being The Golden Eagle. Knight now had Sgt. Grimm in his corner, and this didn't sit well with Eagle. But the former multiple time U.S. Champ didn't have to wait long for reinforcements, as War Machine Nitro appeared unannounced and pledged to stand in Eagle's corner to help keep Sgt. Grimm's nose out of the match. The match was pretty even through the first half, with both men trying to use their strength and power to their advantage, but not quite succeeding. Nitro did a good job at counter-acting Grimm's attempts to interfere, but Grimm probably wishes he hadn't succeeded in getting involved the one time that he actually did. His interference backfired and Cpl. Knight wound up on his back getting pinned and eliminated from the tournament. The fans of IWA Flashfire were then introduced to the biggest star to ever come from Smileyville, USA, Happy, and his arch rival Johnny Lightning. Happy was a huge hit with the crowd, especially the kids, but Lightning did have his own supporters as well. The action was well paced and pretty even throughout the entire match, but when Lightning dropped Happy on his "not-so-right" noggin with an old school spike piledriver (I flashed back to Jerry "The King" Lawler dropping comedian Andy Kaufman on his head in Memphis back in the early 80's), Happy would not recover in time to avoid a three count. After intermission it was time for another tournament match, with this one pitting War Machine Tank, along with Diamond & Johnny Love, against Draco, with El Gato in his corner. Tank, who had just lost the Internet title two weeks ago, has his eyes squarely set on winning the U.S. title and even the involvement of El Gato would prove to be to futile to help Draco on this night. At one point El Gato nailed Tank in the back with a chair and then stopped the toe of Diamond, only to be chased around the ring by an irate Johnny Love. Johnny threw his scooter into overdrive as he attempted to run down Draco's pint-sized associate, but El Gato finally managed to get under the ring to escape. In the end, Tank would connect with The BT Slam and a Claw Slam before finally putting the masked Mexican in The Tanklock. Draco made one last valiant attempt to stay in the match by refusing to submit, but he soon blacked out from the pain and rookie referee "Big E" Eric Wilson had no other choice but to stop the match and award the victory to Tank. As soon as the match was over, Sgt. Grimm came running out with The Blue Dragon on his tail. He informed Tank that The Dragon was the newest ally of The Brimstone Soldiers and then ordered The Dragon to attack. Grimm and Dragon hit the ring and began beating down Tank until his partner Nitro ran in to even the score. Then suddenly another man entered the ring, it was Xion the Heretic! He helped Nitro clean house, and then cautiously accepted Tank's extended hand there afterwards. Xion then quickly left, with no explanation for his heroic actions. The next match on the card was a bout featuring two rough and tough cowboys, "Big Country" Eric Thunder and "The Texan" Johnny Dollar. This match proved to be a good ol' fashioned Texarkana border war (Thunder hails from Little Rock) despite the fact that Big Country initially didn't even want to compete. He came to the ring with his right arm in a sling, claiming it was a lingering injury from Fightmare IV. Dollar quickly informed Country that he didn't come some 1,200 miles from Dallas to listen to him cry and complain and immediately went after Thunder. Dollar's experience, combined with Eric Thunder's alleged injury would prove to be all that The Texan would need to pick up the three count and collect the winner's purse. Donovan Cruze versus "Disorderly" Phillip Pain was next on the card. The crowd couldn't decide who they liked more, so they cheered loudly for both. The match was very clean, quickly paced, and well worked. Both men scored a few near falls on the other until The Executioner decided to come out and stick his nose where it didn't belong. Cruze had Pain down on the mat and climbed to the top turnbuckle. That's when Ex sprang into action. He nailed Cruze in the back with his tag team title belt, dropping him down onto the top turnbuckle. Pain, not knowing what had happened, recovered and quickly climbed the ropes with Cruze. Pain then landed a Superplex and won the match, only to be nailed in the face by Ex with the title belt. Ex then left the ringside area gloating about how he had left them both laying, and proclaiming that Cruze Control (Donovan and his brother David) will never get a shot at the IWA Flashfire Tag Team Championship that he and Tommy Sawyer hold. Then it was time for the main event, Heavyweight Champion "Merciless" Don Matthews defending against the new and improved "Main Attraction" Lance Christopher. This match was an absolute stiff fest. Both men traded a lot of hard chops, kicks, slaps, and punches in the early going. Matthews attempted his "Ode to Abyss" Slam, but Lance reversed out of it by turning it over into a headscissor takedown. Lance then tried to get the upper hand by kicking Matthews right square in the head, (cutting his scalp open) and then hitting his Blockbuster neckbreaker from the middle of the top rope, but Matthews would kick out at two. The champ then retaliated with one of the sickest Ole' Kicks he's hit to date, and then quickly followed it up with a Death Valley Driver, but Christopher amazingly kicked out. They would go back and forth some more before Christopher caught Matthews out of nowhere with a big spinning spinebuster. And yet, the champion would not stay down for the three count. Finally, after some ten minutes of action, Matthews found an opening and landed The Bombshell, bringing an end to Lance's championship dreams, at least for this night. Then, as the crowd applauded both men's efforts, something happened that raised the eyebrows and opened the mouths of everyone in attendance. Don Matthews extended a hand to Lance Christopher. Lance paused only momentarily before accepting the handshake, and then the two men left the ring together and walked back through the curtain, and then went into a locked room for what can only be imagined as an interesting conversation. They were again seen shaking hands in the parking lot before they went their seperate ways. What can this mean for IWA Flashfire? If The Champ and The Main Attraction are now on the same page, is that good or bad for the rest of the roster? Is Eric Thunder really injured? And who will win the vacated United States title? Sgt. Grimm, Golden Eagle, one of The War Machines, or someone who is yet to qualify? What is going on with Xion the Heretic? Will Happy want retribution for his loss to Johnny Lightning? and finally, will Cruze Control ever get the title match with Stateline that they so rightly deserve? Perhaps we will learn more about these issues on November 19, 2005, in Toccoa, GA, at the National Guard Armory. Bell time is 7:30 pm.
